Bill Van Amburg
CALSTART
Bill Van Amburg is the Senior Vice President of CALSTART, part of the executive team, and currently leads all advanced commercial vehicle activities at CALSTART as well as business development. Bill has nearly 40 years of experience in technology development, commercialization and marketing. He personally leads initiatives in fleet sustainability standards, creating national truck and bus incentives and effective fuel economy regulations. He develops strategy and oversees program teams that operate the national High-Efficiency Truck Users Forum (HTUF) program in partnership with the US Army, the I-710 Zero Emission Drayage Commercialization Plan for LA Metro/Gateway Cities COG, the Hybrid and Zero Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Program for the California Air Resources Board, the New York Truck Voucher Incentive Program for NYSERDA, the Chicago Area Alt Fuels Deployment Program with the City of Chicago, the NAFA Sustainable Fleet Accreditation Program for the National Association of Fleet Administrators and the CLEAN Truck Demonstration Program with the California Energy Commission.
He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Anthropology, is a graduate of the Executive Management Program at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management, has a certificate in brand management from Stanford and serves on the Board of the North American Council for Freight Efficiency. Prior to joining CALSTART in 1992 he was an award-winning broadcast journalist focused on science, technology and the environment, which included reporting on the 1980 eruption of the Mount St. Helens volcano.
