Susan Harrington is the Director of Public Health for Riverside County. Susan is a Registered Dietitian and has a Masters degree in Nutrition from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Susan has worked for the Department of Public Health for 28 years and has served as the Director of Public Health for over 12 years.
Public Health, through the Healthy Riverside County Initiative, is leading community health strategies to improve eating habits, increase daily physical activity, reduce tobacco rates and build healthier environments that support walking, biking and exercise.
The Riverside County Department of Public Health offers a wide range of services and programs that meet our mission to promote and protect the health of Riverside County residents and visitors. Services include: family planning services and reproductive health education; public health nursing; maternal and child health promotion; public health laboratory; nutrition services and health promotion; children’s medical services; tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and communicable disease prevention and control; immunizations and vaccine preventable disease education; epidemiology and program evaluation; vital records for births and deaths; public health emergency preparedness and response; and emergency medical services.
Susan represents the Department on the Executive Committee of the County Health Executives Association of California (CHEAC), an affiliate to the California State Association of Counties (CSAC). Susan is also a Co-Chair of the Public Health Alliance of Southern California, a collaboration of 9 local health departments, with a vision that all Southern California communities are healthy, vibrant and sustainable places to live, work and play.
